The sun finally decided to come back out after over a week of rain which allowed the Knights to play a double header against the Saint Paul Mudhens. The Mudhens were 2-4 and the Knights 4-2-1 going into the double header. Last year the Knights split their season series with the Mudhens and lost to them in the playoffs.
Game 1:
Shane Moore would take the mound for the Knights in game one. Shane was coming off three great outings pitching 24 innings where he only allowing 2 earned runs.
The Knights would strike first in the game when catcher Toby Kaplan lead off with a walk. Then second baseman Frank Matteson would follow the walk with a double advancing Kaplan to third. The Knights would take a 1-0 lead on a 1-out ground ball to the second baseman but would strand Matteson in the inning.
In the fourth inning the Mudhens would find some luck when a fly ball to the outfield is misplayed and the batter would reach second on the error. He would go on to score and tie the game after a fielder's choice and a sac fly.
The game would go into extra innings and would end how it began. Kaplan gained first after drawing a walk and Matteson would end the game with a walk-off drive over the right fielder scoring Kaplan from first.
The player of the game goes to Shane Moore who allowed only 5 hits in the game and no earned runs. He would pick up both his first win and his first complete game (8 innings) of the season.
Game 2:
Rick Caldecott told his team before the game he planned to make game two quick. He would not disapoint. Caldecott would pitch his second complete game of the season giving the team two complete victories in one day. He would only allow 3 hits, 2 walks, and no runs in the game while matching Moore's strikeout total of 6.
Supplying the offense, Kaplan and Matteson combined for the Knights only two runs with Matteson plating the go ahead run in the fourth with a triple. Kaplan would go 3-4 in the game raising his season average to .356.
With the two victories the Knights move to 6-2-1 on the season.
